Day 1: Arrival in Wulingyuan & Huanglong Cave

We arrived in Wulingyuan in the afternoon. Our first stop was Huanglong Cave, a huge limestone cave decorated with countless stalactites and underground rivers. Colourful lights lit up the giant rock formations inside, creating a magical underground world. After exploring the cave, we strolled Xibu Ancient Street. We watched Tujia folk performances and tasted local snacks. We stayed overnight at a quiet hotel in Wulingyuan.

Day 2: Tianzi Mountain & Yuanjiajie

We got up early to beat the crowds. We took the cable car up to Tianzi Mountain. From the viewing platforms, thousands of slender stone pillars stretched endlessly across the valley. Soft mist drifted between peaks, making the landscape look like a Chinese ink painting. In the afternoon, we visited Yuanjiajie, home to Hallelujah Mountain, the prototype of Avatar’s floating mountains. We rode the Bailong Elevator down the mountain at sunset.

Day 3: Yangjiajie & Golden Whip Stream

Today we visited Yangjiajie. We hiked along trails to admire the Natural Great Wall, a long line of jagged rock ridges. The views here are wild and less crowded. In the afternoon, we walked along Golden Whip Stream. The water is crystal clear, and tall peaks tower over the quiet forest path. We spotted wild monkeys playing in the trees along the way.

Day 4: Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon & Glass Bridge

This day was full of excitement. We travelled to Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. The famous glass bridge hangs hundreds of meters above the valley floor. We walked slowly across the transparent bridge, looking down at waterfalls and green forests below. Afterwards we followed the canyon walking trails, listening to the sound of running water.

Day 5: Baofeng Lake & Departure

Our last day was gentle and peaceful. We visited Baofeng Lake, a quiet alpine lake surrounded by sharp peaks. We took a boat ride on the lake. The reflections of mountains on the water were stunning. After lunch, we packed our luggage and prepared to leave. We took many photos to keep the wonderful memories of Zhangjiajie.

Travel Postscript
These French travellers loved hiking and mountain photography. They were curious about Tujia history and listened carefully to every introduction.

Personal Travel Tips

1. Zhangjiajie’s scenic spots cover a large area with plenty of walking. It is necessary to wear comfortable non-slip sports shoes to avoid fatigue.
2. Mountain weather is changeable with frequent morning mist. It is recommended to carry light coats and portable rain gear all year round.
3. Core scenic spots, cable cars and elevator tickets need real-name advance reservation. It is recommended to book in advance during peak tourist seasons.
4. Wild macaques are active in the forest area. Do not carry food in your hands or tease them to ensure travel safety.
