Day 1: Arrival in Zhangjiajie

We landed at Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport in the late afternoon. Our private guide and driver picked us up and transferred us to our quiet hotel in Wulingyuan District. After check-in, we walked to Xibu Street for dinner. We tasted local Hunan dishes, including cured pork and wild vegetable soup. The Tujia wooden buildings and folk performances along the street were lovely. We packed our hiking shoes and prepared for tomorrow’s mountain adventure.

Day 2: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park – Yuanjiajie & Yangjiajie

We entered the national park early to avoid crowds. We took the Bailong Elevator upwards to Yuanjiajie, the famous Avatar Hallelujah Mountain site. We wandered along cliffside boardwalks and gazed at thousands of vertical sandstone pillars rising from the misty valley. In the afternoon we hiked Yangjiajie. The “One Step to the Sky” narrow pass impressed us deeply. We took plenty of photos among the peaks.

Day 3: Tianzi Mountain & Golden Whip Stream

Morning visit to Tianzi Mountain. We admired the sea of peaks, Imperial Brush Peaks and Fairy Scattering Flowers. The panoramic mountain view was stunning.

In the afternoon we hiked Golden Whip Stream. The trail was gentle, with clear running water and dense green trees. Birds sang all along the path. It was a relaxing walk after yesterday’s longer climb.

Day 4: Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon & Glass Bridge + Huanglong Cave

Today we visited the Grand Canyon Glass Bridge. Standing above the deep valley brought exciting feelings. After the bridge, we toured Huanglong Cave, a huge limestone cave with spectacular stalactites and underground rivers. Colourful lights decorated the cave, creating a magical underground landscape.

Day 5: Tianmen Mountain & Departure

Our final day was Tianmen Mountain. We rode the world-famous long cable car from the city to the mountain top. We walked the glass skywalk and Ghost Valley Plank Road, then climbed the steps to Tianmen Cave. After sightseeing, our driver sent us back to the airport. This trip to Zhangjiajie left us precious memories.

Travel Postscript
These French travellers loved hiking and mountain photography. They were curious about Tujia history and listened carefully to every introduction.

Personal Travel Tips

1. Zhangjiajie’s scenic spots cover a large area with plenty of walking. It is necessary to wear comfortable non-slip sports shoes to avoid fatigue.
2. Mountain weather is changeable with frequent morning mist. It is recommended to carry light coats and portable rain gear all year round.
3. Core scenic spots, cable cars and elevator tickets need real-name advance reservation. It is recommended to book in advance during peak tourist seasons.
4. Wild macaques are active in the forest area. Do not carry food in your hands or tease them to ensure travel safety.
