Day 1: Arrival in Zhangjiajie
We arrived at Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport in the afternoon. Our local guide met us and transferred us to the hotel in Wulingyuan District. We took a slow walk around Xibu Street in the evening. Tujia wooden houses, local snacks and folk music made us feel the unique charm of western Hunan. We tried cured pork with bamboo shoots and sticky rice cakes. All 5 of us were excited for the mountain trip tomorrow.

Day 2: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park – Yuanjiajie & Yangjiajie
Early morning entry to the national park. We took the Bailong Elevator up to Yuanjiajie, the famous Avatar Hallelujah Mountain. We wandered along the cliff plank road and admired thousands of slender sandstone pillars rising from the valley. In the afternoon we hiked Yangjiajie, seeing the narrow natural pass “One Step to the Sky”. The fog drifted between peaks. We took hundreds of photos.

Day 3: Tianzi Mountain & Golden Whip Stream
Morning: Tianzi Mountain. We saw the iconic Imperial Brush Peaks and Fairy Scattering Flowers. The panoramic view of the sea of peaks was breathtaking. Afternoon: Leisure hike along Golden Whip Stream. Clear water flows beside green trees. We heard birds singing and felt cool mountain breeze. This gentle trail was a perfect rest after yesterday’s steep hiking.

Day 4: Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon & Glass Bridge + Huanglong Cave
Today we visited the Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, the world-famous glass suspension bridge. Standing high above the valley, the view was thrilling. Then we went to Huanglong Cave, a huge limestone cave with colourful stalactites and underground rivers. The cave lights created a magical underground world.

Day 5: Tianmen Mountain & Departure
Our last day was Tianmen Mountain. We rode the long cable car from the city up to the mountain top. We walked the glass skywalk and the Ghost Valley Plank Road. We climbed the 999 steps to Tianmen Cave. After finishing the tour, our guide sent us back to the airport. This 5-day journey with friends was unforgettable. The surreal mountain scenery of Zhangjiajie will stay in our memory forever.
