6 Singapore Travellers・3D2N Adventure in Zhangjiajie’s Peaks
Six of us friends are from Singapore. Living amid city skyscrapers, we had long dreamed of seeing the magical mountain scenery described in books. We heard Zhangjiajie’s quartz sandstone peaks are one of a kind, like a wonderland floating above clouds, so we grouped up for this nature escape away from urban bustle.

1. Cost Guide
At first we planned the trip ourselves and checked multiple online travel agencies. Our estimated total cost for six people was SGD 4200. 2. Daily Itinerary
Day 1: Golden Whip Stream - Yuanjiajie
We entered Wulingyuan Scenic Area in the morning and hiked along the flat trail beside Golden Whip Stream with clear water, viewing rock formations like Eagle Guarding the Whip. In the afternoon, we took the Bailong Elevator up the cliff to Yuanjiajie, visiting the Avatar Hallelujah Mountain prototype, Enchanting Platform and the First Bridge Under Heaven. Our group of six stopped often for photos, amazed by the incredible rock peaks.
·Yuanjiajie was said to be a hideout for an ancient warrior surnamed Yuan. These peaks were once an ancient seabed millions of years ago.
·The forest path is slippery due to high humidity. Wear non-slip shoes and bring rain gear.
Day 2: Tianzi Mountain - Yangjiajie - Ten-Mile Gallery
We spent the whole day on the mountain top of Wulingyuan. We visited Tianzi Mountain first for panoramic views and the Imperial Brush Peak. Then we travelled to Yangjiajie to admire the natural stone wall landscape. In the late afternoon, we rode the sightseeing train through Ten-Mile Gallery, viewing rows of unique stone peaks. The pace was relaxed, we could pause freely for photos without rushing like big tour groups.
·Tianzi Mountain gets its name from the old legend of local Tujia leader Xiang Dakun.
·Strong wind and big temperature difference on the mountain. Bring a light jacket. The eco-shuttle buses have queues during peak hours.
Day 3: Xibu Street - Tujia Cultural Experience & Departure
In the morning we wandered Xibu Street, lined with wooden stilt houses. We tried local snacks, joined Tujia folk handcraft activities and picked up small souvenirs. In the afternoon our private car transferred us to the airport to wrap up our Zhangjiajie trip. No tough mountain climbing on this day; we enjoyed the laid-back vibe of western Hunan town.
·Xibu Street keeps the traditional Tujia market style. It was an important ancient trade route.
·Local snacks tend to be spicy, tell vendors if you cannot eat chili. Leave plenty of travel time for the airport to avoid traffic delays.
4. The advantages of traveling with tour guide Riyue
Our guide Riyue knows Wulingyuan Scenic Area thoroughly. He understood our group stamina and mapped out routes to avoid crowds. He shared vivid Tujia folk tales and geological knowledge. The private vehicle was available anytime for rest stops. All tickets were pre-booked, saving us long queues. He could flexibly rearrange our schedule if weather changed.
5.Personal Travel Tips
1. The weather in mountainous areas is changeable. Always carry a raincoat and don't just bring a sunshade umbrella.
2. Prepare anti-slip hiking shoes and carry drinking water with you.
3.During the peak season, it is essential to book the scenic area tickets in advance to avoid being stranded due to lack of tickets.
