Zhangjiajie Private Tour: Avatar Peaks & Tianmen
Zhangjiajie had always been on our family travel wish list, because the mysterious floating peaks in the movie Avatar were filmed in this magical place. After checking many different tour plans, my cousin introduced us to Kai, a local travel planner. Trusting his experience, we booked the whole private trip with him. It turned out to be even better than we imagined.

1. Cost Guide
To be honest, we almost booked a package tour from a big travel agency at first, which cost 5200 USD for all five of us. But Kai made us a flexible private plan with the same hotels and park tickets, and the final price was only 4200 USD. On top of that, he pre-booked the Bailong Elevator, glass skywalk and cable car, and arranged a private car with an English-speaking driver-guide. In the end, we saved 1000 USD without giving up any comfort.

2. Daily Itinerary
Day 1: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Bailong Elevator & Yuanjiajie (Avatar Mountain)
We started early in the morning to avoid crowds. Riding the famous 88-second Bailong Elevator straight up the cliff was such an incredible experience. We walked around Yuanjiajie, saw the iconic Hallelujah Mountain, the inspiration for Avatar’s floating peaks. Kai shared geological stories and local legends about these quartz sandstone pillars. We took many photos among thousands of jagged stone peaks shrouded in thin mist. In the evening, we headed to 72 Qilou to enjoy the amazing night view.
·The stone pillars formed over hundreds of millions of years.
·The lights of 72 Qilou turn on after 7 pm, the best time for taking photos.

Day 2: Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park, Glass Skywalk & Tianmen Cave
On the second day, we visited Tianmen Mountain. We took the long cable car up to the mountain top and walked along the cliff glass skywalk. Looking down from the transparent glass platform, we could see deep valleys below. We then visited Tianmen Cave, the huge natural cave through the mountain. Kai told us many interesting local folk tales about this magical mountain. After finishing the tour, we headed back to the airport.
·Bring a light jacket, it is much colder and windy on the mountain top.
·Disposable shoe covers are required for the glass skywalk.

3. Experience with Guide Kai
• Special thanks to our tour guide Kai for his professionalism, meticulousness, and engaging explanations throughout the trip, which helped us understand Beijing's rich history and culture spanning thousands of years.
• Before our arrival, Kai arranged the whole route according to our travel rhythm, reserved all hard-to-get tickets and arranged a clean private vehicle with an experienced English-speaking driver-guide. We did not need to worry about complicated ticketing or transfer issues..
• Compared with rigid group tours online, Kai’s tailor-made private tour fits us perfectly. We saved both money and time, and we could sightsee at our own relaxed speed.
• Many overseas visitors coming to Zhangjiajie ask Kai for itinerary planning and ticket booking. It is cost-effective and enjoyable, and you may even meet new friends on the trip
4. Personal Suggestion
• Do not spend too much time reading massive copied travel guides online. Most of them repeat the same information and may mislead first-time visitors.
• My recommendation: Find a reliable local guide and let him arrange your whole trip. It helps you save both money and energy for your journey.
• Personal feeling: Excellent value for money. We could move freely during sightseeing, no forced shopping or hidden extra charges at all.
• Gratitude: I am truly thankful to Kai for arranging everything throughout our Zhangjiajie trip. My family and I had an unforgettable experience, so I am happy to share this recommendation for Kai.
